Cyberoam CR Series Addresses CIPA Compliance
Leading Provider of Identity-Based Unified Threat Management Solutions Enables School Districts and Libraries to Keep Internet Access Child-Safe

( Newburyport, MA, March 26, 2007 )

In response to Internet safety concerns for minors, Cyberoam, the leading provider of identity-based Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions, today announces that its CR series provides full compliance for school districts and libraries struggling to meet the rigorous safety guidelines of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA). CIPA, enacted by the U.S. Congress in December 2000, mandates safety and security measures to address Internet safety concerns for minors online.

Cyberoam’s CR series contains powerful Web filtering that allows administrators to enforce Internet safety policies that block and filter Internet access in accordance with CIPA requirements, critical in enabling schools and libraries to qualify and continue receiving government funding from the E-Rate Program. WebCat, Cyberoam’s automated site-categorization engine, carries a site database of millions of sites in over 60 comprehensive categories, including porn, adult content, alcohol and tobacco, crime and suicide, drugs, gambling, nudity, violence, weapons and more, protecting schools and libraries from objectionable downloads, and ensuring they remain eligible for funding that can be vital to their educational programs.

”Cyberoam's identity-based solution provided us with the granular controls we need for complete visibility into student activities and web-surfing patterns,” says Willie Pico, District Network Administrator for Pascack Valley Regional School District. “Our institution is now CIPA-compliant – and we’re able to ensure the safety and security of our students on a daily basis without prohibiting appropriate access for faculty and student research projects when needed.”

Cyberoam’s unique solution allows administrators to create Internet access policies based on the user, group or department – student, faculty, administrator, science, arts and more – ensuring that academic sites are not blocked for the relevant groups or users. Policies can even be set to give temporary access to sites for project-based research.

Cyberoam’s identity-based reporting offers complete and instant visibility into student activity, providing the username rather than just the machine’s IP address. Administrators can now identify the students instantly despite the fact that multiple users may share machines. In addition, Cyberoam prevents students from revealing personal, sensitive or confidential information via e-mail, chat rooms, instant messengers and more, protecting students from predators.

“Controlling access to the Internet in schools and libraries in compliance with CIPA has been a challenge for these institutions with smaller IT budgets – especially when E-Rate funding is at stake,” says Joshua Block, vice president, North American operations, Cyberoam. “With that in mind, we’re offering a cost-efficient yet solid solution that enables schools and libraries to set meaningful access policies for minors – without unnecessarily prohibiting access for faculty and adults.”

Cyberoam delivers the complete range of security features – identity-based firewall, VPN, anti-virus, anti-spam, intrusion detection and prevention, content filtering, bandwidth management and multiple link management over a single platform. Cyberoam UTM appliances are installed in more than 1,000 enterprises globally, including corporations, educational institutions and government organizations.
